Susan: Just Beading Left!

There are three sections I want to bead, but this is otherwise finished.

Last section worked:

Seam 67, borrowed from something I saw in 2015:

Seam 68, the orange one: needs beads:

Susan: 2 New Seams

Finally, I had a chance to sew on Friday night, and here ya go, two seams!

Seam 57:

And Seam 58, which really didn't set out to look like butterflies, but kind of wound up looking that way:

I don't very often use orange, but I was looking for something that would be different from the soft green/pink/magenta of the other side of the block. When I finish this side, I'll show the whole block for Judy.

CQJP2016: May Block Seams and June Block

Seam 31: Inspired by a drawing on page 119 of the Carole Samples book.

Seam31

Seam 32: Just something I like to do with feather stitches. Feather is my favorite stitch and I struggle not to use it on every seam. =) This one is randomly stitched. There will be beads later.

Seam32

That represents more time that you care to think about, but a thing worth doing is worth doing. LOL

Here's the whole block, so far, with the bottom cut off, 'cause there's nothing down there anyway.

And here's the June block I sewed together on Saturday:

Susan: CQJP2016, March Update

Seam17

There was some inspiration for Seam 16, above, from a seam on Phyllis L's block. As usual, though, I got carried away and here it is. The purple is Sassa Lynne Fine Perle and the green in between is an Aurifil 12. Both are 100% cotton threads. The beads are glass Japanese delicas.

There's been a lot of talk about cotton fabrics in CQ blocks. I use only natural fabrics, usually cotton, silk dupioni and linen. This year's blocks are all linens pieced on cotton foundations.

Here's Seam 17, inspired by Cindy B's block. I didn't do the seam exactly the same as the left upper seam Cindy did, but similar. The seed stitching began as an idea to do running stitch around the lace heart, and went somewhere else.

Seam18

The red-orange and the blue-purple are Sassa Lynne fine perle and the yellow is Aurifil 12, both 100% cotton. The beads are Japanese delicas.

Seam19

The vine on Seam 18 is Valdani Perle 8, color JP 7, the greens are Sassa Lynne fine perles, and the beads are Japanese delica triangle beads. That one started out as something completely different-looking on the bottom of Flora B's block. Then I got carried away.

The whole block, just for Judy.

I apologize to everyone for not commenting on last week's posts. I did look at them, and I thought I'd come over and comment, but time got away from me and I just realized I never did. I'll do better this week.

Susan: CQJP2015 Update on Last Block

I sat with a friend while her husband was in surgery and got two small parts done, both of which still need beads. The corner was just doodling with straight stitches and feather stitching:

Corner 27:

This seam was just pure doodling. I was there with not much of a booklet for ideas, and the first set of Pintangle templates, and this is what happened. Sorry for the shadows, but the sun was shining so I thought I'd get better pictures outside. Ha, ha! I do better with the flash inside.

Susan: October Update

Ooops! I'm so forgetful lately! I meant to have this scheduled, half thought I had. Here are the seams I worked on last week:

  1. First, I finished Seam 55 and added 56. You can't really tell what is different about 55 without enlarging. It's just clear sparkly beads.

  2. Next, I added another seam on the other side. This one is one I've wanted to do a long time. I'm happy with the way it looks. It was on one of Ati's blocks from 2008 when she was working on a wool project. The photos don't show on her blog any longer, probably because of changes in Flickr, but I found it on her Flickr album. She's an amazing artist with needle and thread.

I've been working with floss for a while, and it was nice to get back to the lovely Sassa Lynne fine perle. I think perle works much better for CQ, but sometimes I need a color I only have in floss. Here's the whole block, so far. There are only a few seams and the corners left. Obviously, Ididn't finish by the end of October, but it's okay. There's only one block left after this one for my nine.

Susan: CQJP Yet Again

Only one seam and one corner left to finish on the June block. I'm not catching up, but I'm not falling further behind, either.

Here was seam 43 - just a bit of doodling on a short seam.

Then I did this longer seam and the corner. I may yet add beads to the long orange seam, but I'm happy with the corner. I had the camera on the wrong setting, I guess, 'cause it's pretty fuzzy. Better luck next time.

The whole block so far:

Susan: CQJP2015

May Block finished:

June Block - I got a small start! Two seams, one not yet finished.

Seam 39 is a little odd - didn't work quite the way I expected:

Seam 40 didn't work out as planned, either. I meant to use French knots to make sort of curved designs out from each Feather Stitch, but it wound up looking like a mess of French knots, so I took it out, a rare thing for me. I have bugle bead plans next.

Susan: May Block Seams

A good start was made on the May Oz book cover. It's orange, and that is not a color easy to find in my threads and fabrics, but I did find one variegated DMC ball - where did it come from? Who let it in here? LOL!

Seam 30: Though you would never guess it if you saw the seam that inspired this, it did come from Val Bothell's seam #125 that I saw from her FB thing. I don't do FB, but I did see them on Pinterest on her page. 'Cause you know, I don't do Pinterest either. Life's too short - I don't have that many years left!

Seam 31: Also inspired by a Valerie Bothell's #9 seam, much closer to the original

Seam 32: Inspired by my Carole Samples' seldom used template - bad photo, sorry. You really can't see the pretty flower beads and the purple delicas in the middle of them.

Corner 16: Inspired by something I saw on a page in the Embroidery Stitch Bible. I don't use it often because it really isn't suitable for crazy quilting, in my opinion, but I was thumbing through it in desperation and saw something that inspired this after I closed the book. Here is where I used that DMC I found - it has a LONG repeat.

Next week, Judy, I'll show the whole block. This week, I'm torturing you. =)

Susan: Heart Swap

A little beading and embellishment and this heart is almost ready to become something else for a swap.

Cottage Garden floss, 2 strands.

Susan: Two New Seams

Wouldn't you know it? I finally have something to show and I forgot it was Tuesday! I have a perfectly good excuse, though. Dentist, abcess, pulled tooth. Don't need to say more, right? Oh, happy pain meds, too. =)

So here are the things I did on Saturday:

Seam 13:

Seam 14:

Block about 60% finished - beads added to the lower left corner stitching, too.

A friend in Australia sent some Cottage Garden floss. Oh, my gosh. As much as I like Sassa Lynne perle, that's how much I like this floss! I sewed something with DMC right after and it felt awful in comparison. Seam 13, the fans are the Cottage Garden floss, two strands.

So, two seams and three corners to go. And that's February.

Cy - CQJP 2015 February block started

CQJP 2015 - February's naked block has been hand pieced in my neutrals fabric colour scheme.

And some base foundation stitches have been added to a couple of the seams now.

You will have probably guessed by now that February's block colour is YELLOW.

Susan: CQJP2014 April

A little progress this week. Slight update on this one - using up some extra threads to free up needles.

Then this one is not finished yet, but I'm happy with the progress. There are some paisley shapes in there, but it's a little hard to tell.

August 5, 2014

Susan: CQJP2014: April

Still working on it. With my trip, not much advance, but a couple of small seams are finished. This completes the fan.

Seam 80:

Susan: Aunt Jo Progress

Seams 72-73 are both partially finished. There's still SRE to be done on the feather stitching around Aunt Jo's picture. The zigzag overlap on the right still needs beading. I tried to alternate the square and rectangular shapes on the seam, but it was tricky.

Susan: Nada

Bumpy road this week, nothing to show. My camera autofocus isn't working anyway, so until that's fixed there aren't going to be any pictures unless I take them with my phone, and that's not a very good camera. In lieu of my work, I'll share this link with a teaser picture for you. This is an antique hexagon quilt from Wales.

A Quilter's Journey shows the full size of this. Each hexagon flower is appliqued on a black velvet hexagon and stitched all around the edge with feather stitching. She called it fly stitch, but I think it's feather. What do you think?

Fitzy - No longer naked

I promised a naked block, so a naked block I deliver.
So much for my monochromatic thoughts. I couldn't stay away from "just a lil' color!
I kept the naked block on the coffee table all week, and it kept calling my name. It was a force to be reckoned with, but I still was having cold feet. I spent the week pouring over diagrams and stitch dictionaries, and looking at inspiration on Pinterest, trying to find stitches that were interesting. Not much is above my skill level, and once I look at the diagram, I'm pretty much good to go.
and
so
I
DID!
All "with a little help from my friends". Some of Debra's fabrics, and some of my own. Some lace and beads, from Susan N., and some of my own. Lots of suggestions, links and encouragement from all of you.
OK, I'm over the hump and on my way. Thank you for your patience!

Susan: Block Three Update

A day when it was mostly snowing (Where is Spring?) provided me with lots of stitching time. None of it is sticking, but there's been over an inch. Now it's coming down a lot again, so it may start collecting as it cools off. Tomorrow is another day like it, according to the weather report - and sixties on Easter. Weird spring! So here's the progress I made during the snow.

Block so far:

Susan: Border Progress

About 2/3 done and another 5 days. Too bad I can't work every day on this!
This seam is my favorite find of the week:
This came from Ensamplario Atlantio Blackwork Filling Collection. It's #185.

Susan: Flower Fairy Border 1

I have made some progress this week. In fact, if it were a block, I'd be half-way to finished, except for beading! You should be able to click to enlarge photos, if Blogger is working right today. Here are some peeks, not shown in the order they were done.

This started with a buttonhole stitch, and I just kept messing with it.

Italian Knotted whatever. I liked this one.

The thread is a silk perle and the shine keeps it from photographing well.

Chains and straights. Triangle beads will go on the ends.

Same shiny thread, same problem. Copied 100% from a Sharon Boggon seam I liked.

I'll bet you can guess what this is.
