Fitzy - No longer naked

I promised a naked block, so a naked block I deliver.
So much for my monochromatic thoughts. I couldn't stay away from "just a lil' color!
I kept the naked block on the coffee table all week, and it kept calling my name. It was a force to be reckoned with, but I still was having cold feet. I spent the week pouring over diagrams and stitch dictionaries, and looking at inspiration on Pinterest, trying to find stitches that were interesting. Not much is above my skill level, and once I look at the diagram, I'm pretty much good to go.
and
so
I
DID!
All "with a little help from my friends". Some of Debra's fabrics, and some of my own. Some lace and beads, from Susan N., and some of my own. Lots of suggestions, links and encouragement from all of you.
OK, I'm over the hump and on my way. Thank you for your patience!

Susan: LATE July Reveal

Days late and many dollars short, that's me. But here is as much as July is getting for now. There will be fill-ins around the edges when I sew the blocks together.

Here are the up-and-down buttonhole (almost invisible because I chose the wrong blue to put on the green, but it's there!), the Algerian Eye, and the oyster stitch. The Algerian Eye looks like spiders to me, and I'll probably do something with that when I sew on here more.

Here's the whole block together. It reflects, in the unfinished sections, the lack of time I had during July! The bird section also needs some outlining, but I'm moving on to August or I'll be WAY behind.

Barbara's July TAST and CQJP

In between a couple of out of town trips I finished my July CQJP block.

Pink Basque stitch is accented with hearts.  The cardinal's branch has some oyster stitch leaves.

I added some fern stitch and button flowers to my faux ceramic pot.  I wish that green had a higher contrast against the blue background.

I pulled this crochet motif from the goody box circulating among some of the Tuesday Stitchers and added a bouquet of silk ribbon flowers.

There's the up and down buttonhole stitch in red, accented with more buttons.  The button stash got heavy use this month.

Deborah - Catching Up

Lots of catching up to do today. I can't really get close ups because my good camera hasn't been repaired.

Below, if you can see it, is the bonnet stitch, on the seam.

Here is the basque worked into a flower. The center consists of french knots, oyster and bullion stitches.

The flower below is the oyster stitch

Just below the flower is the up and down buttonhole.

I think ifyou click on the photo, you'll get a better view.

That should catch me up. I'll post more on my blog.

Debra: TAST-U&D Buttonhole, Basque Stitch

Nothing earth-shattering from my needles; but at this point, something is better than nothing from me.

The Up and Down Buttonhole Stitch along a bit of trim Connie gave me earlier in the summer.

My focal point embroidery came out a tad small so I filled some of the space with the Basque Stitch.

I thoroughly enjoyed both stitches and will be adding them to my Go To Stash immediately.

Carolynn- up and down buttonhole

Very little to show for the week, but I did try the stitch! I like it and will try to do more with it as time goes on.

(The weather has been beautiful here, so I worked in my garden; it's showing much more creativity and effort than the stitching!)

Cy - TAST - CQJP July block

I had a little 'playtime' with this stitch on my stitch sampler journal page.
I have no idea 'what it is meant to be', but I suppose, being freeform style, it does not have to actually BE anything at all.
Stitching, just for the sheer enjoyment of stitching.

And onto my July CQJP it goes......

One ......

Two .....

Three ......

...CQJP...

I finally managed to get my naked block for July made.
I have a lot of catching up to do on this block if I'm to complete it before the end of July.
So far I have only got the one seam stitched which is the TAST stitch above.
So much to do, so many stitches yet to trial.

And as i forgot to post this last week, here are my six completed blocks so far.

I've just tucked the raw edges underneath for this photo-shoot. There will probably be black(ish) sashing between the blocks. I am still undecided on that yet, and they won't be in this format either.

That's all for this week.

Keep dry, keep safe and Happy Stitching.

Angela~ Up & Down Buttonhole

I was a bit slow to 'get' this stitch til I found the tutorial that showed it upside down from the others.  You can see where I stopped and started in the closeup below as the stitches are a bit off.  Another learning point in working with circles!
The historic event for July 10 is the year 1921 and birthday of the inventor of the smiley face...no it really was not Forrest Gump.  It was Harvey Ball, an American inventor and commercial artist who worked for the State Mutual Life Assurance Company in Massachusetts in 1963.  He was paid $45 for the 10 minutes it took to create an image to raise the morale of the employees.  He never received any other income from the design and was pleased it made other people happy.

Carol - TAST, Up and Down Buttonhole Stitch

When visiting New Zealand I loved all the ferns we saw on our walks and for me this lace motif captures those memories.  Again, Sharon obliged with Up and Down Buttonhole.

This is a view of  my completed Journal Blocks
January through June

I've not photographed the facing pages, perhaps later.

Judy ~ TAST Up and Down Buttonhole Stitch

Sue's hatband was a good spot for the up and down buttonhole stitch, don't you think? Since Sharon's description said that it would work well on curves, I also used it on the flowers although it's hard to tell. I alternated with a "normal" buttonhole stitch and instead of making the up and down part straight, joined the "legs" at the top. Instead of turning out like a triangle, it just looks like a bit heavier version of the regular buttonhole stitch. Oh well, I did the up/down part, honest! Don't know about you, but I hope the next stitch is different from the last two. I've run out of hat bands and sleeve edges!
