I sat with a friend while her husband was in surgery and got two small parts done, both of which still need beads. The corner was just doodling with straight stitches and feather stitching:
Corner 27:
This seam was just pure doodling. I was there with not much of a booklet for ideas, and the first set of Pintangle templates, and this is what happened. Sorry for the shadows, but the sun was shining so I thought I'd get better pictures outside. Ha, ha! I do better with the flash inside.

Barbara's September CQJP, some TAST, and Project Re-design
I frequently get about 75% of the way through a project when I just run out of steam. As usual, I hit a wall with this project over the last month. It took me a long time to piece the one-more-block I needed to go on, and then the embroidery lagged until I got sidelined with a cold, and with some unexpected free time, I finished the embellishment.
I started to wonder if I could get away with making this a 9 vs 12 block piece. I already had misgivings over my original plan to put an image of St. Francis in the middle of the blocks. I also liked the size of nine 8-inch blocks, and began to see that three more blocks weren't going to add any significant elements to the piece.
I then recalled that I have a St. Francis medal (alongside one of St. Claire) in one block, and I moved that one to the center.
I found some possible sashing fabric: a brown paisley, some shiny fabric for a thin inner border, and an outer border candidate in gold and tan.
I'm pretty much resolved to spend the rest of this year sashing and piecing these nine blocks. It will probably require some embroidery on the sashing
and the blocks may need some tweaking: for example that large sunflower
patch in this month's block needs to be reduced or toned down.
Now that
I have a new plan the "are we there yet?" feeling is somewhat at bay.
We'll see what construction challenges lie ahead as I tackle the rest of
this project.

Carolynn --pistil stitch
You all have been so creatively busy! I have just a few practice stitches and a few pistil stars on a Christmas table topper I've been working on off and on.
And by the way. . . I take ALL my pictures with my phone camera! Someday I will need to learn to download pictures from the "real" camera; until then, it's the phone for me!

Cy - CQJP update
I think I am finally getting back to some sort of normality here.
It has definitely been a busy couple of months for me what with work on the farm and the Art Festival work..
My projects for the Arts Festival made the deadline
(see my Rock Pool in a Fish Bowl post here)
I have caught up with the TAST stitches, but I have not yet completed my August CQJP, but progress on that block is coming along nicely. Just a few more beads to add, and one more seam needs embellishing.
So the end is in sight. Hopefully will have it finished by next weekend.
So here are the photos of my TAST catch-up stitches. All these are on the August CQJP block.
This one is Pistil Stitch around a Shisha mirror.
Pistil Stitch to couch a ribbon embellishment.
And here is the Sheaf Stitch.
The following pics are varying seam treatments on the August CQJP.
I'm looking forward to another stitching busy week ahead.
Happy Stitching

Angela~ Pistil Stitch for 9/11
Pistil stitch is basically a french knot but with a long tail. Since I like doing french knots, I also liked doing pistil stitch. I believe it made for a pretty nice effect for Henry's Ruff.
The ruff is done with pearl cotton while everything else is 2 strands of cotton floss.
*
When I was doing the research for historical happenings for 9/11, beyond the one in all our minds, I found 2 other events for that date that linked all 3 together.
In 1609 Henry Hudson discovered what would becomes known as Manhattan Island.
In 1941 ground was broken for the construction of the Pentagon building.
And of course in 2001 both the Pentagon and the WTC on Manhattan Island were both attacked by terrorists.
*
Does anyone else find this odd?

Susan: Pistil Stitch
I want to apologize for not commenting on everyone's blogs the last couple of weeks. It isn't lack of desire, just time. The work being done is beautiful and deserves thoughtful comments.
This butterfly was given to me by a friend, and I decided the quilt needed one more, going with odd numbers for balance. This is my pistil stitch, and there will be some beadwork on the butterfly body, but no time today!

Back in the saddle again with SBS and the Pistil Stitch. Block #9~ Hurrah! It's kind of fun to do the pistil stitch in one fell swoop instead of doing a separate french knot and a straight stitch, isn't it? It worked perfectly on Sue's sleeve. (Sorry about the shadows.....)

September's block is navy blue and will have a victorian feel to it. I'm not sure who will be stitching that victorian feel but maybe I can pull someone in off the street to do it. It seems that handwork has severely dropped down on my list of personal activities. The pendulum needs to swing back into its favor. I have been seriously working on some obligated quilts (machine work) that are now under control (drop by my blog for photos) so expect to return to the slower handwork.
My plans are to embroider the seams in various whites & do a pretty button cluster or two. I thought about doing a pistil "flower" around the individual big buttons but now am second guessing myself. Maybe this afternoon.
Edited--here's my Pistil stitch--I like this very much and can see it again on future blocks.

I used perle cotton and a strand of crewel yarn (for the tie and pistil)
