Susan: Last CQJP2015

This is the remaining corner, where I sort of put things all together.

Corner 29, the flowers are from Stitch #215, Val Bothell's Joyful Embellishments:

Then Seam 68, sort of Val's Stitch #215:

Pictures are terrible. I may have to break down and buy a new camera one of these days. I know that if there were a decent camera shop, it could be cleaned and settings redone, but there isn't. I could mail it to Idaho, where we bought it, and I might. For now, I'm just going to deal with it as it is, and apologize a lot.

Here's the whole block:

CQJP2015: Block 8 Reveal

Crumb! It's Tuesday again. Tuesday really needs to come on Wednesday. By then, I'm awake and know what day it is. =P

I've lost track of which month this is supposed to be. I'm doing nine blocks this year and this is number 8. I gave up on three others because I'm just too far behind. So here is the whole thing:

Some seams I like and some I don't, but it's finished, and that's always good. One more block, and then 2016 begins. I signed up immediately, even before it was supposed to be active. It came online a couple of hours early. This is the fifth year. I don't know if I will do it after this year, but I thought I needed to see it through one more. Love those nice round numbers ... like five. =)

Susan: October Update

Ooops! I'm so forgetful lately! I meant to have this scheduled, half thought I had. Here are the seams I worked on last week:

  1. First, I finished Seam 55 and added 56. You can't really tell what is different about 55 without enlarging. It's just clear sparkly beads.

  2. Next, I added another seam on the other side. This one is one I've wanted to do a long time. I'm happy with the way it looks. It was on one of Ati's blocks from 2008 when she was working on a wool project. The photos don't show on her blog any longer, probably because of changes in Flickr, but I found it on her Flickr album. She's an amazing artist with needle and thread.

I've been working with floss for a while, and it was nice to get back to the lovely Sassa Lynne fine perle. I think perle works much better for CQ, but sometimes I need a color I only have in floss. Here's the whole block, so far. There are only a few seams and the corners left. Obviously, Ididn't finish by the end of October, but it's okay. There's only one block left after this one for my nine.

Cyra ~ Pink Block Done

YAY..... I've finished this block now.
It's PINK.

I like this one, it has some interesting shapes and seam treatments.
There's a couple more photos on my blog -here- (and also about something dear to my heart that I cannot take with us when we move).

So now I have to await the big move in November when I shall be reunited with my stash to make the next naked block and start embroidering on it.
I shall have to invent a new crafty project to occupy my creative mind and restless hands in between packing.
ALL my 'stuff' is now out of reach, and I dare not go shopping for more because I'm fed up with packing it all away and out of sight.

I wonder what I will have to show you next week, lol.

Susan: CQJP2015: October Seams

First, September, with all the embellishing:

First two seams on October:

Seam 53, inspired by a seam on Kathy Shaw's September blocks:

Seam 54, inspired by mostly nothing. A desire to use a particular template from Carole Samples' template set, one I don't get to use very often, number 4 C.

Cyra - cut to the chase

Last week I couldn't find my camera attachment to upload photos.
This week I have found the missing chord/lead/usb thingy (someone put it in my crochet bag and put some crochet leaflets on top of it).

As I have had a great stitching week I am going to cut to the chase and show you the completed Purple Crazy Quilt Block, because, yes, I have completed it.

Please don't ask me what that 'thing' is on the left because I have absolutely no idea. It just developed into that, that.... thing.

And here is the next block, hand stitched as per all my blocks this year.

Once this block is finished I cannot make any more until after the end of November, as all my fabrics, and threads are are packed and have already made the trip to the new place.
I'm getting excited about moving now, and can't wait to reunite with my 'stuff'.
Oh what a lovely adventure awaits me.
Once we have settled there I plan to write all those books that are in my head, and make all those quilts that need making, and paint all those paintings that are just waiting to be inspired by the scenic location, and crochet all those 'things' that need to be created, and finish all those UFO's.
Haha! famous last words........

Susan: CAJP2015 September

I just plain had fun playing around with this one. It started to be something more like Joyful Embellishment #162 from Valerie Bothell, but then it began to change to fit the space and I like how it finished.

Seam 49

The orange-brown variegated thread is a Sassa Lynne perle 8. The green is Aurifil 12. This leaves one corner and 3 seams to finish in the next week. Thursday-Saturday this week are UFO weekend, so I expect I will finish, or come close by the end of Saturday.

Here's a better photo of seam 47, more in focus than the last post.

Susan: CQJP2015 September Progress

Bad pictures. I'll try to get better ones tomorrow. This was all experimental. Some of it, I like. Some of it, not so much. Still, it's progress.

Cyra ~ Naked Block

The naked block for June (yes, June) is done.
Hand stitched as usual.
And I have decided that the thread colour for this one is going to be purple.
But I have not done any stitching on it yet.

During the week I spent a day at the Hamilton (NZ) Craft Show and stocked up on threads, yarn and fabrics for a couple of hand stitched projects to keep me busy over the next six months.
Hand stitched projects are all I can plan for at the moment while we are 'house-less' and on a caravanning adventure from November for a few months until we find (or build) our new home.

Here are a couple of photos from the craft show.

CQJP2015: September Seams

I am only making 9 blocks this year because I fell too far behind and catching up wasn't happening, so this is now my September block, not July! I have 3 seams done from Saturday:

I'm quite happy with ⬆️ this seam, which follows the lines in the fabric, and the beads I found to go on it. This is just doodling, based on the fabric design. The corner is based on a shape on a Staedtler General Purpose Professional Template - you know the kind. There are squares and stars and arrows, triangles, circles and hexagons, plus a protractor on one end. And it's green. This shape intrigued me, so I traced it, then echoed it, then put another echo inside. I think it needs something more, but I haven't quite decided what yet.

I'm mad about this seam! It's a combination of two of Valerie Bothell's Joyful Embellishments, #150 and #161. It was such fun to do, and I love the way it looks.

That's it for this week! 3 corners and 6 seams to go!

Cyra ~ Orange details

Here are a couple of close up photos of my Orange CQ block as promised.
There are a couple more photos on my BLOG as well.

The next naked block is ready and waiting for it's thread colour to be chosen.
I just can't decide which colour I want to work with next. It's not that I don't like the next colours, it's just that I have so many ideas and I'm finding it rather difficult to channel my thoughts into one colour.

Hubby & I have an exciting day out tomorrow, so I shall see if I'm inspired by any particular colour on our travels.

Cyra - Orange CQJP finished

Just a quick one-photo post today, as we are in the midst of O.I.S. (Other Important Stuff)

I love Paisley's and Mandala's

I will hopefully get some individual seam photos posted during the week (or next week at the latest).

Cyra - Not a Lot

Q - How much stitching did I accomplish during the week?
A - Not a lot.

Just 'arrows' on the left, and circle at the bottom. I'm very disappointed that I didn't get to finish the block this week.

Major life-changing decisions are so difficult to make, aren't they?
Our plans change so fast with the foreign exchange rate not working in our favour at the moment, but of course nothing in life is easy.

Ah well, onward and (hopefully) upward.

Cyra - The Orange Seams

After mislaying my camera last week (finally remembered that I had left it in the car) here are my Orange Block seam treatments so far.

I like working with orange.

Just as a reminder (or an intro for anyone who wasn't watching at the start of this project) my Crazy Quilt blocks for this quilt are ALL thread embellishments. This is because I am moving home (long process) and do not have access to my lace, trims, beads etc. So this project is entirely hand stitched - hand pieced, hand embroidered, and I will be hand quilting and hand binding it too.

This is my 'sanity quilt' while all around me is madness and mayhem and packing boxes (half of which have already made the trip to our new place).

Although we have sold our farm, the new owners can't move in until November, so, as we don't have any particular plans for the rest of this year, we have agreed to stay on in the house until then, and keep looking after the stock etc. When November comes around, we will be touring NZ for a couple of months in our caravan (it will be our summer then), and then pop over to UK for another couple of months (summertime in UK, lol).

We do not have a house to move in to, just bare land in Central Hawkes Bay, close to the Ruahine Mountain Range, which we will use as our NZ base for the moment until we have finished traveling and are ready to settle down.

Back to the stitching now.

Susan: Seam Update

Half a day late, more than a dollar short. This is the only seam I have finished, and it took forever.

Susan: May Block Update

Just two seams this week, right outta my beady little mind. =)

Middle, so far. One corner and 3 seams to go.

Cyra - Back on track with CQJP

Yes, I'm a 'bit' behind on the Crazy Quilt Journal Project, but here is my latest work on this piece.

Green, is the colour for this block, although my camera has not captured the right bright greens properly.

All the crochet pieces were entirely stitched freestyle with no patterns. The seam treatments will have more embellishing eventually.

I love the paisley design. I might have to 'chart' that one and share on Ravelry.

So that is my April block started. The neutral naked block is hand pieced.

Oh it's good to be back stitching.

Happy Stitching.
