Deborah - TAST Algerian Eye & Cast On

Another busy week behind me; camera is still not functional, so these shots are from my phone. 

My cast on stitch -

 I think this qualifies as the Algerian eye. Not a stitch that really spoke to me. I will have to think more about this one.

Today was absolutely lovely, about 68 degrees this morning which was a welcome change. Nice breeze & low(er) humidity. It got warmer but not so much that we couldn't turn off the a/c and open windows.  Today I had my family over for lunch: my brothers, sister in law, and two cousins - sisters who are 78 and 86. We had a great lunch, and a wonderful visit looking at old photos, in a lot of instances nobody could remember who the person was. My kids loved it. Getting old photos organized is the hardest thing.

I have done a lot of stitching this week, enhancing the blocks I have "finished" (are they really ever?) with embellishments, and filling in some blank spaces. When I'm satisfied, I'll post a photo of all the blocks together - again. ;-)

Cy - TAST Cast-On & CQJP

I must have had a premonition about this stitch because I actually looked up how to do it on Monday and started practicing it even before Sharon announced it as the TAST stitch for this week.

Sometimes I just amaze myself, lol.........

CQJP August - The Naked Block

I also managed to get my naked block for August stitched together.

I actually like the large scroll fabric wedge towards the bottom, and I am half way through stitching a very nice crochet piece for that long seam.

While I was crocheting I was thinking how lovely it would be to create a whole Crazy Quilt with only crochet trims and doily's that I make myself (I love to crochet). That sounds like a BIG project. I wonder if I should start planning it for next year's main project. Crocheting small trims etc. is an excellent project that can be done while touring with the caravan (which is planned for late next year too).

So that was my happy week of stitching.

Susan: LATE July Reveal

Days late and many dollars short, that's me. But here is as much as July is getting for now. There will be fill-ins around the edges when I sew the blocks together.

Here are the up-and-down buttonhole (almost invisible because I chose the wrong blue to put on the green, but it's there!), the Algerian Eye, and the oyster stitch. The Algerian Eye looks like spiders to me, and I'll probably do something with that when I sew on here more.

Here's the whole block together. It reflects, in the unfinished sections, the lack of time I had during July! The bird section also needs some outlining, but I'm moving on to August or I'll be WAY behind.

A Mandala Motif .

Detached Chains with a French Knot to anchor it. Pistil Stitch (purple).

Tubular petals for this half flower.

Love this simple seam.

The blue is Buttonhole bars and then added the white beads.

A very small amount of Algerian Eye stitch for TAST this week, and I shall have to play some more with it on my August block as I haven't really done it justice this week, but I still like this little 'starburst' shown here.

Well, that was quite a lot of work for the month.

Seven blocks down.....five to go.

Angela~Algerian Eye Stitch Stars

Since most of my journal pages are aida cloth it worked great for this week, especially as I found the cross stitch chart for free online.  Gryffindor colors are scarlet and gold so I used 2 strands dark scarlet floss for the cross stitch of 'Harry Potter', and the lettering.  A golden yellow thin pearl cotton was used for the 

Algerian eyes.  

I found it interesting that JK Rowling gave Harry her own birthday, albeit a different year.  Maybe he is her alter ego?  But who doesn't love Harry Potter?  I think the Algerian eye stitch stars make this page look rather magical!

Judy ~ Algerian Eye TAST July Reveal

Can you spy Sue's Algerian Eye? Hint: there are three, but none have the "hole" because I didn't want to pull the threads tight. I hope you aren't as tired of seeing Sue as I am of stitching on her! Luckily there's the new stitch each week, and believe it or not, the next block shows both of her arms! (The bird is my rather lame attempt to make a goldfinch, our state bird. I've seen more of them in other states than here though.) Sue wanted blue suede shoes; these aren't close to suede, but they are blue. Hmmm, better stop before you think I am nuts.  Happy stitching!

 

All of your good wishes paid off! Madeline Taylor Eliason arrived safely last night, the first, and weighed 5 pounds, 6 ounces which is pretty good since she was about 6 weeks early. Mom and baby are doing well...and my sis and I are very relieved.
