Hello All-- I've been traveling again, this time cruising in the Inside Passage on the east side of Vancouver Island with friends who have a lovely 57' wooden Chris Craft. I stitched while we were gone, but internet was spotty, so I'm a little behind. Wonderful this morning looking at all the lovely work that's been posted!
I have a new project: a baby gift for my niece. Her mom made a baby quilt and then sent me the left-over fabric, so I'm doing a small wall-hanging. Not quite finished, but close!
The baby is Matilda Lucy; her name will go in the large pink strip below her picture.
Oyster stitch with some beading (and a little Basque):
Bonnet stitch:
Wheatear (I like this one!)
My plan is to add some green rick-rack around the outside edges to cover the stitching of the heart to the ruffle. The name will go in alphabet beads.
This has to be done by Friday morning, so I need to get busy today!!!

Deborah - Catching Up
Lots of catching up to do today. I can't really get close ups because my good camera hasn't been repaired.
Below, if you can see it, is the bonnet stitch, on the seam.
The flower below is the oyster stitch
Just below the flower is the up and down buttonhole.
I think ifyou click on the photo, you'll get a better view.
That should catch me up. I'll post more on my blog.

Cy - TAST stitch
I've not got much to show this week.
The days have just disappeared too quick and I've also been having problems with my long-suffering shoulder injuries again, but I'm in denial over that because I really cannot be doing with THAT major surgery again. Positive thinking will make it go away, right?
So here is my TAST Bonnet Stitch for this week. Worked on a square of my hand dyed linen that will be made into a stitch sampler book later.
These two rows are worked in different ways. The top row is with the first 'wrap' going OVER the bar then under it from right to left (as in Sharon's instructions)............. and the second row has the 'wrap' first going UNDER the bar from left to right before going over it (as in the link Debra gave us, and also in my old stitch encyclopedia).
Personally, I prefer the second method. This sample was stitched with no.12 Perle cotton (nice and chunky) and shows the stitch well.
This next pic is still the Bonnet stitch. An experiment to see if it would work around tight corners. Took a bit of concentration to get it to look even on all three sides. Almost got it right, but not quite, lol.
Pale blue 'candlewick' thread used.
The Bonnet Stitch did not inspire me to get creative, but that does not mean I don't like the stitch. I actually found it a rather therapeutic stitch to work, and I will be using it again perhaps with some experimental seam treatments on the crazy quilt.
Non-existent this week. I've not even got the naked block for July made. Hope to catch up during the week.
Sorry, I completely forgot to take photos of all 6 blocks that I've completed so far. I'll get it done for the next reveal hopefully (if my memory doesn't desert me again).
Inspiration
I have been watching a few crazy quilts progressing through the months, block by block, and I have been very impressed with how lace doily's have been incorporated in the blocks, so when I saw this pile of crochet, needlewoven, and tatted doily's in my local charity shop, I knew I had a future use for them. 19 in all and bought for peanuts.
And this Damask tablecloth...... have been added to my 'embellishing' stash.
Happy Stitching

Angela ~ Bonnet Stitch, Ugh
Bonnet stitch is kind of round on the bottom and pokey on the top. I thought it would make a good stem for the strawberry drawing. Then things went horribly wrong. I stitched and ripped out at least 7 times. I could not get this to work but I wasn't about to give up.
I finally found a worked example with large enough stitches that I saw where I was going wrong and was finally able to do it right. This was right before Debra sent out the additional illustrations.
BUT, I don't like how it turned out at all so the border I had planned is missing. I disliked this stitch that much. I will never use it again. I guess everyone has one of those stitches.
In order to have a colorful page I used prismacolor pencils again as I did on the Sonny & Cher page.
July 3, 1806 is the date that Michael Keens exhibited the first cultivated strawberry in the US. They had been cultivated in Europe since the 1750's when the first garden strawberry was bred in Brittany France. Wild strawberries grow most everywhere in the world, even in the Himalayas.
Progress so far on the journal:
There are 4 pages to each section or folio that will be stitched together. Then each of those folios will be stitched together. At least that's the plan.

Carol - TAST, Bonnet Stitch
Well, Sarah is off to New Zealand to visit her Auntie Cy. She knows this is the wrong time of year, but feels sure of a warm welcome and she will get to celebrate Christmas.
When I got the hang of it, I quite liked Bonnet Stitch and found the stitches were neater when one put a little tension on the thread after the first wrap.
As the patch says: "New Zealand - Lakes, Mountains and Fiords"
July's colours are green and red and I may incorporate a little blue and yellow making it a square colour scheme

Bonnet stitch - ignore that small gap where I think I ran out of thread. I wasn't fond of this stitch at first but it's growing on me.
Below is a shot of the blocks I have completed so far. My June block is the left center one. On my blog I explained how I messed up and used one of the middle row blocks for the last "aunt" block and had to remove the photos (which I had only basted down, thank goodness).
If I could go back, I'd arrange the pictures so that they travel around the entire piece in a circle. I realized when I put Peggy's block (last row, middle) next to Mom's (last row, right) that I could have done that - if I'd thought about it. But I didn't, unfortunately. Live and learn.
I think I want to surround the center photo with lots of flowers - perhaps some appliqued, some ribbon, some fabric. Lots of texture and dimension. Or not. We'll see. I don't want just a plain border around that photo.

Judy ~ Bonnet Stitch and Sue's Wardrobe
Thank goodness Sue has sleeves that are just waiting to be decorated! The Bonnet stitch worked perfectly on the curve of it.
Last week Debra asked us to post all of our stitching thus far, so here is Sue in 6 different outfits, enjoying her stressful life. For the rest of this project, I plan to continue in the same fashion, using each week's new stitch as best I can to embellish each month's block. The challenge is kind of fun. In the end I hope to put all 12 blocks together as a quilt. We'll see! It's been very inspiring to see the wonderful stitching of this group. Additionally, I hope to get around to doing a bit of crazy quilting and finishing some of the many cross stitch projects that are languishing in my stash along with countless balls of yarn and fabric. Oh, if only there were more hours in a day!
