Cy - Heart Crazy

Straight From the Heart Crazy Quilt

Week 27

This week I have a Kantha embroidery heart to show you.
Free Form style, drawing free-hand straight onto the fabric, gives this piece a traditional look.

The pale pink heart in the middle is rows of chain stitch.
Other stitches used are: running stitch, back stitch, satin stitch and emphasized couching (where the couching stitches comprise a design).

And a couple of blue 'bricks' on the Building Blocks quilt can be seen on my blog HERE

Now I must get a couple more days of packing done. Just got to get the house on the market, and then once sold, we can enjoy our travelling retirement.

Patricia Stitching

First  I am so sorry that I had trouble with getting this posted at the proper time.

This week I worked on adding beads in the tree with the girl leaning against, also had some different stitches on the seams, I need to finish one of these thne add flowers or beading.

This is my Jan. block,  Hope to finish the spider web with something more with the heart also in the pink space.

I have added a little more lace on the ink, a heart where the seams come together. stitching on the gold & white on green I did the Maidenhair Stitch.  On the white a Chevron.

I look forward to adding more this week, trying some different stitches and possibly some ribbon.

Happy Stitching and Thanks for Looking!

CQJP - TAST - Quilt Blocks & Life

Life got in the way of my online presence over the last few weeks and trouble always seems to come in 3's.

See my blog for more on Life's Little Troubles

TAST update

At the moment I can't remember where I got up to, but here are some that I have done on the chunky, brightly coloured, highly textured cushion that I'm making for my (almost blind) mum.

Chain Stitch
Couching
Running Stitch
Whipped Spider Wheel (tutorial on previous post on my blog)

There are other stitches on this cushion too, as I'm slowly building up the colour and texture.
I have actually done a few more Whipped Spider Wheels on here, but no current photos as yet. You will have to wait for next weekends reveal for that.

CQJP - February Finally Finished

Yes, I have finally got to a finishing stage for my February CQ block.
There is still more I would like to do on it, but I have run out of time, and really need to concentrate on my March block.

And some details.

I have also stitched this Kiwifruit applique block for the Prostate Cancer fundraiser quilt, that my local quilt group are making.

And the following pic is the block I've entered in the block lotto for March at the quilt group.
The theme for this month was the Grandmother's Flower Garden Block and had to have a cream background.
All hand stitched.

Well that's me done for another reveal.

Happy Stitching.

Judy's Partial Whipped Wheel and Running Stitch

With a bit of encouragement from Debra, I dug out my sampler, sharpened up my needle with a few running stitches, and tried making a whipped wheel using my usual 2 strands of embroidery floss. It wasn't until I tried it on SBS that I realized the importance of not pulling it too tight or leaving it too loose. Has anyone tried a partial wheel? Any suggestions on how to get back to the other side? I slid the thread under the wheel, but it was a bit awkward.

Sorry about the wrinkles! Can't press it without setting the stitching lines that are supposed to rinse out~(If you look closely, you can see where something wet dripped on the net and in the lower right corner, causing the blue to run.) Anyhow, here's the bug-catching SBS with running stitch and a partial whipped wheel added. Depending on next week's stitch, I may create a whipped wheel flower. Don't you think that might help Sue snare the butterfly?

Thanks, Debra, it's good to be caught up!

Deborah: TAST week 10 - Running stitch & CQJP progress

This was the one I wanted to run away from. LOL. But, here is what I eventually managed:

March CQJP block, in progress. I really love this treatment, although the picture doesn't to it justice. The flowers aren't as wonky as they look here.

Running stitch in the light colored block and the center of the leaf, not yet finished.

And here I used it to anchor the lace to the photo in last mont's cq block.

Running stitch here in the fan motif I'm working on.

I'm fairly pleased with the way the block is shaping up.Now I just have to find those photos
of Aunt Mae.

Barbara's TAST Week 10: Running Stitch

I had an unusually busy weekend, but I managed to fill in a few spots on my March block.  I found a bit of sparkly thread to interlace with running stitch, and I added some fly stitch to the center image of the block.  I  used outline stitch to sew the doves motif, which I found in this old embroidery pamphlet I've had for awhile.  Since it has 55 cents penciled in on the cover, it must be a garage sale or thrift store find.

The pamphlet is undated, but it brags that, although it it written in English, it was printed in France, and it has the imprint of Thiriez & Cartier-Bression of Lille-Paris.  It also announces that a series of these "albums" is available "in Stores, Habersashers' and Ladies' Needlework shops."  Oh my.

The designs are charming and not snooty at all.

It gives illustrated directions for stitches, and some sweet projects.

Some of my favorite on-line sources for embroidery motifs are: Vintage Transfer Finds, where florecita has started posting again, and the mother lode: the Hoop Love Vintage Transfers site on Flickr, which you have to join to access, an easy process.  Once you're on the site, be prepared to spend some time browsing.

Have a great week everyone.  I'm on Spring break this week, which means I'm doing my taxes, car maintenance, and other deferred projects.

Angela: TAST Running Stitch

This week's stitch was the running stitch, a very useful stitch especially for sewing pieces of cloth together but also for decorative use.  I kept it simple again which is really hard for me.
Running stitch is really easy, especially on aida cloth.  For the sky and ground I just varied the length for some interest.  Aida cloth is hard to work with if you want to do curves however as you have to ignore the holes.
Since I live in Texas and March 6th was the anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo I chose that as my theme for this journal page.  I have visited the Alamo in San Antonio and was surprised at how very small it is.
The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution. Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched an assault on the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, USA). All but two of the Texian defenders were killed. Santa Anna's perceived cruelty during the battle inspired many Texians—both Texas settlers and adventurers from the United States—to join the Texian Army. Buoyed by a desire for revenge, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the revolution.
More history per usual on my blog!
