I managed to get quite a bit done on my March Sewing themed block. I started some regular seam treatments and also did the weekly TAST stitch of whipped wheels. They were easy! I was glad to have tried them. I will build a button cluster grouping around them when I get all the embroidery done. I like to add my embellishments last.
I used a sock knitting weight yarn and filled the middle with french knots.

I don't see why not--any thread will just change the look of the wheel. If you wanted something delicate, you could use very fine threads. You will just have to go around your wheel more times to fill it up.
I saw in the Dorothy Bond's book some wheels done by only covering the top part of the spoke and then a lazy daisy or bead at the end. That idea appealed too.

I love those black flowers above the butterfly.
They look embroidered. Did you do them or were they part of the cloth? They look elegant and so perfect on this block. And as usual you zig zag application is so cute!
You wheels picture isn't all that clear. Did you put french knots in the middle or is that how the wrap turned out?
I tried several times to get a good pic of the wheels but just could not. The french knots are clustered in the middle. I added them to fill in the space.

Yes, embroidery floss does work. That is what I used on mine.
I really like the black flowers too, and the butterflies. Your stitching looks great and I like the whipped wheel with the french knots in the center.

I used 3 on most, 2 on the smaller ones and I think 4 on the tree.
Judy, why don't you experiment? These are very easy to stitch. I think I did all 3 in an hour.
Love your butterfly sparkly! The seams are so well done, and I really like the one done over the polka dot ribbon.
Michael's Craft Store had a bunch of those little stick-on butterflies in their $1 bins so I loaded up! They are really good for a touch of shine and small enough to sneak in.
The black & white floral ribbon is that craft ribbon they carry too.

Great choice to use the sock yarn. I forget sometimes that I have all this other fiber at hand.
At the beginning of each month, I go through everything I can think of for the color of the month and stock my supply basket that I keep at my desk. Then, I just pull out of my basket all month instead of looking around everywhere every time I sit down to stitch. It's been working very well for me and keeps the clutter at my desk to a minimum.
This block is beautiful! I like the french knots in the whipped wheel center--it adds another texture to the whole look.
I forget sometimes to check my yarn stash. Thanks for the reminder.
