I felt like this was a good embroidery week. I was able to get my March block started. I added the ribbons and did a little embroidery. I wanted to go further but reminded myself I needed to pace through the monthly TAST stitches first.
I am following a Sewing Theme using the color wheel + black + white. Each month is the next color on the wheel. March's pure Orange worried me that it might look too halloween so I was careful to pick trims and motifs that did not suggest halloween.
This month's block is called "Cut". Imagine why?!
I decided to use a big bag of needlepoint wool yarn hanks (a thrifted item, of course!) for the couching. I normally do a fair amount of couching so this week wasn't much of a challenge for me.
The Christmas wallhanging is not at the stage where I wanted to add any couching so I left it for this week. Hopefully, a new stitch will work.

There's that color association thing again. I'm blogging about the color wheel on my organizing blog. I think I need to post about it. I don't think your block look the least bit halloween. Adding the bit of yellow-orange and white has helped. I love the color wheel idea! I somehow missed that is what you were doing. Very nice block so far.
This is the project we were working in Stitch 12. Now I don't have to wait until I've written the lesson to stitch my block so I feel more free to stitch.
Yes, for a yearly project, the color wheel with its 12 colors works very well!
It's weird isn't it, the associations of colors with seasons and holidays? I don't think of Halloween though, looking at your block. In fact I like it a lot even though orange isn't one of my favorite colors. Very cool the way you used polka dot ribbon next to your polka dot fabric and then couched it with chevron & herringbone. I just LOVE those embroideries.
Your block is stunning, wonderful use of colour, fabrics and ribbons. Can't wait to see further stitching. Colour wheel working so well.

There's not the slightest hint of Hallowe'en about this block! I think the trims you've used create a very nice look, and I'm not really an orange fan. That's quite a challenge: the colour wheel in 12 blocks.. Love your couching/seam treatment stitch combination! I have to start doing that.......
Amazing once again! I love this block and I'm not normally an orange person, except to eat them. Somehow I had only straight lines in my head as couching...I think there was way too much stress at work this week and I couldn't get creative.
Working around the color wheel is something I have wanted to do for a long time. I hope it helps me work with colors I would normally avoid. I want to learn to make friends and begin to use them more in my daily work.
I love orange--for some crazy reason. I even painted my dorm room orange with a big wide yellow stripe around it! (yea, it was the '70s!)
You've been super creative other weeks so we'll let you slide a little this week. But, you have to be back in the game fully next week. Your adoring fans expect it. *wink*

Yea, Connie and I got silly last month with color associations but it is true. And, knowing that, I wanted to make sure to avoid the Halloween theme. Although I could have used a skull with scissors . . . .

I really wanted to continue but had to restrain myself. Once I get into the groove, I can handstitch for a long time but getting me there takes effort.
Successully avoids all Halloween reference for me, too. I think the repetition of floral motifs really helps with that: I think of daffodils and marigolds-- spring and summer-- instead of autumn and pumpkins and Halloween.
That's interesting because marigolds are used alot at day of the dead celebrations on Nov 1st.
