Carolynn--buttonhole wheel cups, closed base needlewoven picot

Hello--
I have been stitching! but I keep missing my posting time!

I put buttonhole wheel cups and closed base needlewoven picots in this floral motif, along with some whipped wheels, bullions, and cast-on flowers.  They may be a little hard to see because the colors are similar and the stitches are so crowded, but that actually is what I was trying to accomplish: a very encrusted section similar to several that Sharon has used as illustrations.

(As usual, this is importing sideways--don't know why!) (The kitty is a motif put on a year or so ago; this block is one of my UFO's!)

In another spot, I tried a motif with a button, a charm, and various flowers:

Finally, I tried the knotted loop stitch on two lines, trying to make the arms of the stitches close to parallel, even though the seams are not parallel.  As I continue working on this, I want to try to "encrust" embellishment in the pointed area of the bottom of the figure. Don't know yet how it will turn out, but. . . what are UFO's for, if not to experiment!!

Judy~Catching Up with Knotted Loop, Hedebo, and Italian Knotted Border Stitches~Whew!

Ten days in the Midwest and some unexpected craziness upon our return home put me three stitches and then some behind on my October block.  After consulting my trusty embroidery book, thanks to Debra's suggestion, I found the (Knotted) Loop stitch and could actually understand it.

The same book mentioned a different Hedebo stitch which raised my curiosity, and sure enough, it's a whole type of embroidery from Denmark that's explained here.
I wasn't too keen on adding beads to my blocks, but took the plunge anyway. Now Sue has one fancy hat, that's for sure.

The Italian Knotted Border stitch worked pretty well on Sue's sleeve, but with regular embroidery thread the knots were kind of far apart so I added some contrasting french knots.  I think Sue's mother will be horrified to see what she's doing in her party dress.....

Carolynn --knotted loop, beaded hedebo, costume!

I've been doing the minimal amount of stitching to stay up-to-date. Still learning the stitches, but I don't have a big project I'm working on to show them off; I just put them on UFO's to give them a try.

Here's the beaded hedebo from last week; I like this one and need to give it a try on a larger scale.

I, like several others, had trouble with the knotted loop stitch, until I discovered the key:

"Slide the needle under the first stitch passing it from right to left.
Keep the working thread under the needle"
Once I realized that, the stitch became easy!

However. . .  here's what I've really been working on the last couple of weeks!

The pattern is sized for adult women, so I had to alter it down to fit a (very slender) ten-year-old. The overdress bodice is interfaced, lined, and boned--that should give my little princess a taste of what life was like in former times!   This has been a fun project!

Angela~ Knotted Loop Stitch

This week's stitch (Knotted Loop Stitch) is really more for borders though it does make nice leaves.  It just didn't fit with anything I found in history for the day.  Or should I say the missing day?  One of 10 missing days to be exact for the year of 1582 in several European countries.
So here's my stitch and there's not a lot of it, but enough to see what it looks like.   I do like the variegated purple floss against the yellow aida cloth, nice and cheerful.

Different countries chose to switch to the Gregorian calendar at different times.  I wonder how those paychecks back then were worked out?

Debra: TAST: Knotted Loop Stitch

Looped Stitch--not quite sure on this if I achieved the knotted look as required but I liked what I did and can see this as a good, fast stitch for any block.

Herringbone & Chevron combo

Hedeebo edge trim with plastic bows

This month's block is blue violet & I am using some pinks as the accent color.  I'm trying to work ahead because the Houston quilt show is the end of the month and I'll be very busy with friends and quilts.  I can hardly wait!
