Interesting week with this 19th stitch. It's one I like, but I couldn't seem to find any inspiration for using it, even after looking at the first 20 or so blogs who posted on Sharon's site. Finally, I had the idea, Thursday night, to make some "flags" on the wheatear circle. Then I was stuck again, for embellishment, until last night when I did what you see here:
Then I experimented with something I'd been thinking about for the butterfly. I may yet add something sparkly, or maybe not.
And here's my 2-year-old rose bush that's still happy in it's big pot on the deck. Every limb has a bud at the tip, and one is going to open soon. The first rose of the season! These smell so sweet. It's called Ch-Ch-Ching.

How did you make the butterfly? It looks like there is some kind of sheer fabric underneath it, maybe?
Your seam treatment is just fine. Not every stitch has to be the star!

The butterfly was machine stitched on a very sheer piece of fabric a friend sent. It was a vine and a butterfly piece. I couldn't see me every putting the whole thing over other fabrics on a block, but I liked the butterfly. It has occasional sparkly bits in the thread used to stitch it, and I liked it here.

Oh, yes. This one and the little baby one, too. Here's a secret you may not know. I got it from the nursery lady when I bought the bush. Make about a quart of water mixed with a tablespoon or two of epsom salts and water your rose bush. It causes the bush to flush, which just means it forces blooms. When these have all bloomed out, I'll do it again. I also use miracle gro on them about every 6 weeks. I let them be dormant in the winter. =)
Good to know, so thanks for sharing that about the roses. I'll have to wait until it warms up here before I try it.
Half chevron looks great with the detached chain and your butterfly so frothy and light. Can't wait to see the seams embellished with stitches.
I like it alot! I'm getting very keen lately to cut into pre-embroidered pieces to nab sections for CQ. Good for you.
I hadn't heard that about roses either. I had a neighbor that had huge gorgeous ferns. She gave it birth control pills. Who knew.
Your half chevron stitch does look great. I like the color contrast with the fabric too. This stitch plays nicely off your circle.
You have to have a prescription for B.C., don't you? It's been a long time since I've used them. I can't believe it would be worth the hassle of getting a Dr.'s recommendation!
You do need a prescription and that is why my plants have to get their own if they want them. She had a doctor friend as I recall. It was several years ago. Nowadays I don't think a doctor could get by with that.
Probably got some samples. I'm sure the plants were not particular about the brand!
Oh gosh!!! can you imagine the converstion at the doctors office? The look on the doctors face as "women of a certain age" ask for BC, hahaha.
Patient = "I need birth control pills urgently please doctor"
Doctor = "Excuse me madam but aren't you a bit too old for BC?"
Patient = "It's not for me, it's for my rose"
Doctor = "How old is your Rose and why doesn't she come to see me herself?"
Lovely neat half chevrons Susan. Great position for them coming off the circle too. It is nice to see that cq stitching doesn't always have to be on the seams. I like adding stitching to the fabric shapes too.
That is a rather unusual butterfly. Needs a shisha for a head I think

Great "flags," Susan. I love the way they look interspersed with your wonderful feather stitching. Your butterfly is fun and adds a perfect touch. Did you do the machine embroidery of it? You may not have been particularly inspired, but it doesn't show!

Thanks, Judy, that's sweet of you! I didn't do the embroidery, don't have that kind of machine. It was from a very sheer piece of fabric a friend sent to me. I may try one freehand, though. Have to find the right sheer for a background, but I think this would not be that hard to do. All I need is time to play around with it!
