Debra- TAST: Satin Stitch

New month means a new block!   This month's block is orange yellow.  It may appear to be yellow but compared to yellow, it is orange yellow.  It's been an interesting experiment in fabric choices working around the color wheel.  The fabrics that we have a tendency to lump together actually have color variations.

This is a cute sewing motif for the month.

I messed around with Sharon's satin stitch as a couching stitch.  I definitely plan to use this more often now that I have tried it.  I also can't believe I didn't think of this treatment myself.  I particularly like the way I was able to get a black and white look with something as easy as a stain stitch and a ribbon.

It's going to be a fun month working on this block!  Comments welcome.

This looks like a fun block with the bright color, polka dots and center motif. Your satin treatment caught my eye right away. I love that look and it is perfect for your block. I may have to try that on a project one day.

Love that tape measure. Is that satin stitch on the pin cushion or? Very clever...and your "saying" is oh so accurate! In knitting also!

Perfect saying and this one will be just as cute as the last one!

Love your block fabrics, bottom right looks like a piece of seersucker. Thought we didn't rip, just a little "reverse sewing"! Everything goes so beautifully together and looking forward to viewing further April stitching.

Great new block, and that couching is so perfect around the center motif. I might have to try something like that, too. I know just the spot - on the March block! =)

I love it too!

Found a little yellow plastic thimble today at the flea market that will be perfect on this block.

It's all machine embroidery--satin stitch. Yep, you could be doing this too with your machine.

That's the plan!

It looks like a texture but is a plain cotton.
It's going to be a fun month, this one!

Lots of lovely seams on your yellow/orange block to embellish. I love this colour scheme Debra. It's a 'happy' colour and brightens my day.

I laughed out loud when I read the motif! It's so true. I like everything about this block, so sunny looking, but not too bright or hot. The polka dots add just the right note of serious ( lol) and I like the white lace.

Definitely happy and definitely going to be fun. One thing I like about this color wheel idea is that I am not committed to a color for more than a month.

I like the way you are using the colors of the color wheel. When I was working on that project, I always found it difficult to commit to the particular color for the month; I found myself wanting to water them down or distract from them by adding complementary or opposite colors. I like the way you have created interesting compositions with a predominance of each of the month's colors. Using the black and white contrast was a great idea!

When I got started on this idea, I had no idea I had the amount of black and white trims I do have. My hope is that by the end of the year, I will have exhausted that stash of supplies. I am generally not a high contrast person (in my personal style or stitching style) so this is a chance to work out of my comfort zone. Sometimes I can learn things about myself by doing that!
