My little block is filling up pretty quickly.
This week I used the detached chain stitch (aka Lazy Daisy) to make silk ribbon leaves for my tree. I had originally filled it in with perle cotton leaves, but they didn't show up against the busy background, so I pulled out the heavy artillery. I didn't take out the original stitches, but just sewed right over them, and that worked out fine.
Like I have done with other accent motifs, I traced this little owl from an old embroidery book onto some tear-away stabilizer and stitched through it.
The bird in the central panel got a few accent stitches, and I added a gold spider web. My spider blends a bit too much into its leaf, so I'll add some outline in a contrasting color. My double herringbone stitches got some green buttons, and I added more herringbone stitches and French knots next to the butterfly.
The middle of the block got some dark green buttonhole stitch and some red lazy daisy blooms.
I'm planning to embellish the two short seams to the right of the tree, and to add some foliage to the left side of the tree. Then I think this block's done. Onward to the next block!

I like the mixture of the 2 different threads of lazy daisy for the tree leaves. The silk ribbon leaves are very nice.

I like the feeling of this block-very much outdoorsy and nature inspired. It's good that you accented the bird section with stitching to give it the same textural look as the rest of your block as it fits very well, I think.
I love the garden addition of the little red lazy daisy flowers. It looks like they have nodding heads in a gentle breeze. I like the combination of colors and sizes of leaves. I think it was good to leave the old ones in. The owl is a darling addition to the tree! The stitching under the bird does give definition to that area, and your other additions have filled the block out. I like it!
Your little owl is adorable! The accent stitches on the blue jay are a really nice touch, and I too like the combination of silk leaves with perle leaves. Have you thought about adding a few more perle leaves to overlap some of the silk leaves? (I've been inspired a lot by Sharon Boggon's style, and I love the way she overlaps stitches to create texture and depth. But her style is not the only lovely approach to CQ either!)
What thread did you use for your spider web? Is it sewing thread? I like it a lot- the size is a nice contrast to your perle and your floss! It looks very delicate and strong, just like a real spider's web!
Oh, where shall I look first, lol, I'm trying to see all the stitches at once, my eye is roving all over the block eager to see more.
The accent stitching on the centre bird is very effective, and I love your owl and spider.

The metallic thread I used here was Kreinik, a very thin thread on a spool. Metallic sewing thread would be very similar. I've had it for ages, and I'm not sure where I got it.
Love your little owl. Perfect for this tree. The addition of the spider web that just adds a touch of glimmer is nice. This block seems to have gone rather quickly. As you say, it doesn't need much more.
It's always fun to see what you come up with for your blocks, Barbara. How about a touch of red on your spider, an hour glass maybe? Or is it a friendly spider? LOL
