What a great week for stitching! I love the feather stitch, my very favorite one. Here's a pic of some of the samples I did in 2008, the first TAST around.
This time, I decided to be less decorative and more basic, playing with size and length and direction.
One thing I discovered is that aida cloth is not the place to practice feather stitching a circle! I'm using leftover pieces of thread from other projects, so I get my needles empty again without wasting anything.
I applied both buttonhole and feather stitching to my CQJP block, though the feathers are as yet unembellished. That's tomorrow's task. I apologize for the flash pictures. We haven't had sun in days and days!

Oh, I know what you mean about stitching on aida cloth. I have had a challenge each week because that is what I am using to clear out my stash.
I use little leftover threads to do practice stitches too. I use Aida for muscle memory when I have trouble figuring out a stitch than I transfer to fabric for stitching. I do love Aida, though. I'd forgotten how much I missed counted work until this year's challenges.
You're totally stretching your stitch variations this time around... very nice. I remeber the work that you did with Carole samples book and I so loved seeing how you journaled your stitching with that. Love how you caught the color of the right side of block with the thread color to the left, this fairy is going to enjoy her garden

I have found the same issues with Aida Susan. While it is great on straight seams, working at any sort of angle takes a bit more thought. It is fun to see the comparison from 2008 with your current examples of feather stitch. Your block is looking wonderful. Everything coordinates so beautifully!
Susan, your block has a lovely romantic vibe about it, and I like how the thread colours are soft, repeating other colours in your fabrics. Everything compliments your fairy. Nice feather stitch variations.
You definitely are a whiz at the feather stitch, Susan! Wish you'd been closer when I was practicing. Know what you mean about aida cloth and curves...kinda difficult. Loving your fairy; she's beautiful!
It is interesting to see the comparisons of your 2008 and 2012 variations! What a great know where you've been and see where you are going!
