Moira: a little sewing and lots of unpacking......

I've now been the townhouse for 9 days, and it's slowly becoming liveable.......woohoo...........lol.   I've been able to clear out enough space to layout the blocks and sashing for my quilt top for the Modern Quilts design contest.    I still need to remake at least one set of the sashing units (the light yellow at the bottom right of the pic) but to do that I need to find where the tote with my fairy frost fabrics is.    And to do that I have to get my fabric room where the stash is in order......sigh.....hopefully this week.   Or else I'm going to have to order another color.

I've played around with the layout of the blocks since this pic was taken, but you get the general idea of what it will basically look like.

Am also debating about what to name this ..... it'll be a play on something star trek-y in nature since my pieced units unintentionally look similar to the communicators on Star Trek.

And if you're interested, you can click here to see pics from the house as I unpack and get things set up that I've put up on my blog.

Moira: On the Road

By the time this posts I'll be on the road and headed towards Texas and all that is down there.   My dad will be driving the moving van for me and my mom will be riding with him.  Don't know yet what my car will look like, but I think at the time that I'm writing this, it'll actually be less crowded than previous moves have been.  And that says that I actually did make a dent in what I have as i've been downsizing and getting rid of stuff......YEAH!

One of the biggest things accomplished this week, was to get a lease application in the first part of the week and it was approved.   Deposit has been mailed off, and the lease has been electronically signed.  =)  And I get the keys to the place on Friday the 12th....woohoo.........I'll have a roof over my head!

In between finishing up the packing and most of everything needed around here I did get some sewing in this week.   Finished up 4 snack mat tops first this week.  All started with a piece of cross-stitch.

I also completed the pieced sashing units for my Modern Block Quilt contest entry.   Am thinking about redoing the yellow ones tho because the yellow kinda blends into the background fabric and that really isn't the look that I want for the setting.  Each set as shown is a different color, all of which have beein used in one or more of the 12 blocks that I made.

And yes I know what they ended up looking like - totally unintentally........however, I do admit thinking about how I could spin the look into a fun title for the finished quilt.   I'll start putting the top together once I get to TX and can sew again.

Moira - Busy Days......

Moving is now less than a week away......Truck will be loaded next Monday, and we hit the road on Tuesday morning.  Hard to believe that time is flying by so fast now.

Packing and cleaning is most of what I'm doing these days.....but have also been able to do a wee bit of sewing during the last couple of weeks.   I've finished off 4 more scrub tops, that makes 14 made to this point.   Don't know if I'll get anymore done, but the box will be mailed off to my customer this week.   Will have to let her know where to mail payment later 'cause I still don't have anyplace rented yet.  =P

Yesterday I turned in my row-by-row quilt to one of my fav shops here in Wyoming and was the winner for that shop.  My winnings for being the first one for it was to pick 25 FQ's of my choice.  =)   Lots of fun being able to go "shopping" for free.  =)

I also finished up the remaining 15 flag blocks that I had PP patterns for.   these will go with the other blocks I had already made into two American Hero blocks.   One will be all flag blocks, and the second one will have some other blocks with them made also from the remaining pp'd patterns that I have from a long ago quilt.

The next couple of weeks will not see much of any sewing done.....will have time to some this week, but after the 9th there won't be anything but cross-stitch until I can find somewhere to live.   Am turning in an application today....but haven't a clue how long it will take to go thru the approval process.

Moira - Slowly digging out.......

I'm still here......Am now in my 4th week of teaching.   Hard to believe that a month has almost gone by already.

I still haven't gotten any sewing done since the move tho because I've been digging out from all the boxes and trying to get stuff arranged here in the apt.

The two pics here give an idea of the mess of totes and boxes that I had to deal with in one room.

Have finally made it thru that room and found most of what I was looking for.  The spare room, which is where most of, but not all, of my stash resides is now arranged and usable.  Still have a bit of work to do in there but not a lot in that room.   Have finally gotten the BR also into usable shape.  Next up is getting the living room, hall and storage room straightened out.

thankfully at this point I'm only missing 3 things that I know of - my backup laptop, a jump drive that has school stuff on it, and the tote of fabrics and blocks for the block contest that I'm participating in.  I do have an idea of where the laptop might be but have to take all the empty boxes to my storage unit first before I can check the car to see if I stuck in the hidey-hole in it.

Next up for me - I need to finish designing this months block for the block contest and get it made (and it would be nice if I could find where I put that tote for safe keeping as well so that I can use the fabric in it..........sigh.............).   And then up is cutting 6.5 inch swatches of my alphabet/eye spy fabrics (more than 100 different fabs) because I have at least one, maybe two buyers for them.   And then pulling coordinates for a couple of focus print fabs to make quilt kits which will be sold to a friend who is a brand new quilter.  (Gotta love getting people hooked on quilting!)

Moira - On that Hamster Wheet.....

......And getting closer to having all the packing done, but still running like crazy to get it all done.   Job at the store is done, last Drivers Ed lesson is tonite.   Hopefully last day at the school is Thursday.  Still have errands tho to be run - PO for change of address, p/u doctor record copies, and so on........will it ever end?  lol

Truck Pickup is first thing Sat Morning, loading at 10 am, then cleaning the house and turning in the keys.   Heading out on Sunday morning.   And yes, I'm officially going crazy!  lol

But i did manage to get the commissioned doll carraige finished up and delivered.  Customer and her DH loved it.  YEAH!!!

Back with more in a couple of weeks after my move.
