Moira - 10 days and counting down...........

.......till the end of school when I can sew again.    Very little sewing done this past week.   Did manage to get three alternate blocks completed for what will be a lap sized quilt.   the roosters/chickens are panel squares that were originally bought with a friend in mind who has now passed away.   Working on this quilt brings her and good memories to mind.    I've got a plan in mind for how I hope to put it together, just need time to work on it.    Hopefully will have that on Memorial day since I don't teach that day and don't have to be at the store either.
The CQ piece below started with a piece of cross-stitch that I made yrs ago.   Fabrics were added to it to echo the sense of the kitten being in the bushes with the sunlight filtering through.   The only seam treatment that I've managed to get done on it is at the bottom and right side of the center.   Stem stitch, lazy daisy leaves & flowers and beads were used in it.  This one has sat for a while partially because I had no clue what I wanted to do next, partially because of no time to work on it.   I do know I want to put in a seam like Fitzy used last week with the daisy's.

Set of 4 coordinating CQ blocks.   Fabrics came from Susan N. and a mutual friend of ours several years ago.   Blocks have been made for a while, but haven't had time to work on the embroidery.   Not sure what I'm going to do with them and so they sit in the UFO tote.   One of these days tho I'll get to them.

Deborah: CQ stitching

A little more progress on the CQ this week. Not finished with these seams -- I'm waiting until the pieces tell me what to do next. ;-)

This block started out with one idea which I quickly ditched. Now I'm meditating on where to go next. :-)

Sunday I made two of these pillows for the Basset Hound Rescue auction this coming Saturday evening.  I don't have Bassets but my brother and his wife and three, and we attend the auction every year. Last year if you recall I made a small wall hanging for the auction. One day I want to make a full size doggie-themed quilt.
These are big pillows, about 20 inches. The toile looks great with the black and white embroidery.  Thanks again, Debra, for these beautiful embroidered pieces. They're done on this gorgeous linen, too. These should be very successful at the auction.

That's about it, except for cutting out several garments which I need desperately. I could spend a fortune on ready made clothes but they are so expensive and besides, I really love to sew.

Have a great week, ladies.

Cy ~ Heart Crazy Quilt ~ Week 10

Straight From The Heart - Crazy Quilt
Week 10

The crochet edging for the Dresden plate center is complete - all 60 inches of it.
Took a while to crochet it and stitch it in place around the 'swags' of the plate.

Another patch embellished with a crochet Mandala/flower.
Love, love, love these colours, lol.

And, now that I have finished the Dresden plate central work, I get to stitch the patches together onto the quilt.
Fun.
No perfection is required for this part. Raw edges to the patches, large stitches, wonky stitching......whatever happens happens.
Just pick up the next patch from the pile and stitch it down somewhere.
An occasional fill-in patch required to cover a blank space.

You might recognize a few of the stitchery patches from earlier this year.

No progress on my Boho skirt this week, but I did get two more parts of the Winter Warmer done.

Guess who's having fun...........

Deborah: R&W CQ

A few more seam treatments are all I have to show on the CQ this week. At this rate, this may become my 2015 project as well.

I did get two new skirts made for Spring, however. Denim of course - is there any other fabric? :-) I confess I love denim. So easy to sew and wear. I do have & wear other fabrics, just kidding. But I find as I get older, it's all about comfort.

Here's my work for the week. I'm not done with them, I've just been putting down some basic embroidery to be embellished later.

Can February really be over (almost)? Where in the world does the time go?

Deborah: R&W CQ Progress

Running late as usual, but here are some shots of the CQ blocks I've been working on. Sticking to red & white and just simple seed beads for the most part,

Deborah: CQ Progress & Purple Quilt

More stitching on the red and white CQ this week. I'm taking it in stages, so these are just the seam treatments. I'm keeping this one simple, not much embellishment.

I worked on the purple quilt for Debra this weekend and I have to say that I love this. I don't know about you but I do love purple. I've got a couple of pieces of purple yardage that will make a nice narrow border, for starters; then I'll go from there. Still have lots of 5" blocks.

Here's a peek:

I'm sure you've all heard about our weather last week.

Cy's take on Debra's Christmas wallhanging

I've been playing with Debra's Christmas wallhanging design in Photoshop.

This is a digital design.

I may have overdone the number of snowflakes, but you could always put some larger doilies in the four corners and graduate the sizes towards the middle.
For the Nordic theme I thought of putting rows of basic felt shape silhouettes that have been stitched in the folke style of just buttonhole edges or even just running stitch as on the reindeer here.
Debra, you could even turn this into a 24-day Christmas calendar if you make the shapes reversible with a number on a plain side, to turn one over each day to see the stitched side.
(Sorry, I enjoy creating work for others, haha)

=======================================================

Edited to add this pic.

Large doilies and lacy trims could be at the bottom, graduating to smaller snowflakes towards the top.
Gives the effect of falling snow. ~~ I think ~~

I'll do another digital manipulation later to show the larger doilies in the centre.

Next edit follows.......

A few hearts scattered amongst the larger doilies in the centre.
I did this manipulation before I saw Debra's new pic with the large centre snowflake.

I like having the wide area of red separating the large doilies from the small ones. I think it gives the eye a resting place.

Cy ~ Three Minimal Crazy Blocks

Another week has come and gone.

My Embroidered Chance project has progressed just a little bit, but I forgot to take photos, sorry.

I have also been working on the crazy quilt 'mummy' shapes.

I will not keep you in suspenders  suspense any longer on this project.

After ripping out all the hand stitching that I did on two blocks because they were rather

over embellished

for my liking,

and I really wanted minimal,

here is what I have done to them this week,

and a third block for good measure.

This is more what I had in mind, lol.

Let the fabrics and the colour do the feature thing,

not the stitches.

Happy Stitching

p.s.  Just in case any of you are 'eagle-eyed' perfectionists and notice the seam that I missed stitching the machine embroidery onto, I have since stitched the 'offending' seam after taking this photo.

Judy's CQ Attempt

Sunbonnet Sue has been handed over to a quilting friend who will work her magic on it in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, our quilt group decided to make a heart quilt for a member who's having some health issues. This past week I was housebound with a cold and had some unexpected stitching time and was able to finish my two contributions.  The center fabric will be used for the quilt borders.   I also got a good start on my Sandy Hook heart and hope to finish it during the coming week; then I can get back to work on my UFO pile.

You probably already know this trick, but I faced each of the hearts with a very light weight Pellon which gave me a finished edge that was easy to stitch.

It was fun to try my hand at a bit of CQ again.  Since my quilting friend is an accomplished embroiderer, I thought she'd like it.  Hope you all weren't too shocked!  Have a great week!
