I've not managed much stitching on the CQJP this past week, but I did add a little:
silver snowflakes cascading across the fabrics
a pretty, clear snowflake on a thread dangle and silver beads on the white, lacy trim
a medium-sized tatted snowflake with a crystal center and silver sparkles
and this is how the 1st piece of quadrant 1 looks so far.........
As Debra suggested, I did a couple of mock-ups: white and red on red, and white on white in this photo.....a bit crowded and busy-looking
on this photo I added white on red and red on white.....there are fewer elements, but it's difficult for me to tell how busy this might look overall. I do like the way this one 'reads'......
So, I've decided to do the white-on-red snowflakes and embellishments for now. When completed, I'll decide then if I want to add red on the white fabrics.
The TIAS has reached day 11 of the pattern, and we've now completed two pieces, and will begin a third or begin joining these together--I'm not sure which........
I'm still stumped!
I hope today to begin my HEX LABS stitching.
That's all for this week.
Have you had a stitchy week? I hope so.
Hugs from Suz

The silver snowflakes are rocking it, maybe more silver/gray? Love it, any which way! The tatting has me stumped too, can't wait to see the outcome. Is there a difference between needle tatting and shuttle tatting?
Maybe the red tatted pieces could go on the trims, at the intersections & joins of trim. Definitely like the white tats on the red--not sure about the flower applique-seems a bit out of theme (and shape) with the snowflakes. Lots more of the little silver snowflakes everywhere . . .
I'm stumped on the tatted part, too. I like quadrant one at the so-far stage. I agree that the picture after that is too busy. What I like about the first picture is how each thing compliments everything else.
Oh, yes, there'll be lots more silver snowflakes!
Needle tatting is chunkier looking than shuttle tatting, which is quite fine and delicate. If you look at photo 5, there is a red heart with variegated trim. This piece was shuttle tatted by a friend. Compare that to my heart with a handle and beads, and you'll see the difference. This happens because with needle tatting, the stitches are formed on the needle and then pulled down onto the thread. The stitches have a larger diameter than the thread, and so look fatter. In shuttle tatting, the stitches are formed on the thread, so the result is much finer. Thanks.
Personally, I love the white-on-red & red-on-white layout, rather than the red-on-red etc. Love the silver snowflakes giving a bit of glitz and shine. As Debra says, lots more of those scattered everywhere.
And I like your crystal centered tatted snowflake.
It's a possibility re the red tats. Or they might find a home on the tree, instead. I was wondering about the flower applique, too, so I may remove it. You have such a good eye, Debra. There will be many more silver snowflakes! Thanks
Thanks, I like it, too, but I'm thinking the red tat and the white flower have to go......we'll see where this ends up. ;-)
Yes, it reads better than the other, Cy. I'm just not sure yet whether the white snowflakes on the red fabric will be sufficient. There will be more of those tatted crystals..... tee Hee
I'll go with the red on white and vice versa. I really like the silver snowflake additions!
Love the silver snowflakes you added and the hanging crystal one!
I figure if we've all hung together this long, we can be honest with each other! (wink)
I, too, love the little silver snowflakes. You seem to be having lots of fun with this tree skirt! Great colors on the TIAS tatting. What is HEX LABS?
I agree that the amount of embellishment in the first picture looks very balanced.
Me too! Gotta love a little bling, right?
Oh, there'll be more of both showing up, Moira. Thanks.
Thanks Judy, I am! HEX LABS is a year long stitching project with StitchMAP. Each month we receive three patterns we can choose from to follow to make into a hexagon, and the object is to learn new techniques and build our skills while completing a monthly project.(minimum 1/month) At the end of the year we'll have the completed hexagons to then turn into something else, like a table runner, or a crib quilt, individual sachets, etc. Techniques we may be learning: surface embroidery, silk ribbon embroidery, stumpwork, shisha, blackwork, and other options. It should be fun!
I'm going to take it slowly and see how this evolves. Thanks.
I really like the snowflakes. Kathleen mary
