Every year one of my young friends (who grew up with my kids and now has her own 3 kids) asks me to make 2 quilts for her school's auction. Yesterday I made the bigger of the quilts using pictures the kiddos drew of things about the earth.
I was in Austin TX for Quilt Con Wednesday - Friday. It's a young show with lots of modern quilts. No crazy quilting. Between that, the preschool quilt and rushing toward the March 1st deadline with my Mother & Child piece, my Christmas wallhanging is laying idle. I do plan to give it a lot of attention once the Mother & Child piece is done and photographed.

Nice! I love the sashing and borders on this. Bet folks'll be fighting to own it. I've noticed that same thing at quilt shows around here, little or no CQ.
Very cute! These quilts are such nice mementos for parents.
Most shows don't have a category for CQs, unfortunately. We usually get tripped up with the "quilting 3 layers" requirement. Shows also are hesitant to accept quilts with a lot of embellishments for fear of it falling off, poking someone, etc. Road to CA has a CQ category and I may look more carefully at that show in the future. In the meantime, I am working towards more hybrid pieces that incorporate some quilting.
One year 2 families got into a bidding war and the price landed in the $750 range!
What a great idea! Very colourful, bright and happy!
This is a neat quilt, mad with pictures drew. What a lovely idea.
Love the springtime/Easter colors! The stripe border is perfect. What did you use for the back?
A couple of mid-range green prints.
Very nice, someone is going to love cuddling up in this quilt. I really like quilts that are made like this.
Nice work

Thanks Pat! My guess is this quilt will hang on the wall.
I love the way you have echoed the colours of the blocks with the colours you used in the sashing. A very 'marketable' quilt. Good luck on the bidding.
Love your quilt! I saw a lot of the quilts from the show on a blog of someone else who went to Quilt Con. Really amazing and energetic quilts. Some I didn't care for, but others I loved, and that's no different from any quilt show I ever attend! I'm glad you got to go and hope you had a wonderful time.
Yes, Road is a good one. The Arizona Quilt Guild show has had a CQ category in the past. I also have memories of particular quilts at two other shows, but do you think I can even begin to think where they were????
