Detail of one of the joined block areas
They take almost as long to embroider & embellish as the blocks did!

Maybe they are time consuming, but sew sew worth it! They're a joy to behold.

I spent 3 full days last week stitching and anticipate as many this coming week. I am still planning to be done by the end of January.

I love this quilt: I've been thinking about rainbow pieces for knitting, so it's nice to see this idea so well executed in a quilt. I'm glad I decided (for various reasons) not to join my CQ blocks but to stash them instead. I had a feeling that joining blocks opens a whole new can of embellishment worms.

I toyed with the sashing idea but it interrupted the flow of the colors from one to another. Like Cy's comment about the blocks being focal points, I agree; the same applied to my wallhanging. I didn't want the sashing to interfere. I would have also felt compelled to embroider or embellish the sashing so the entire surface was tapestrylike and that would have been so much more work than joining the blocks and filling in the intersections.

I still plan to add an outside border that will need some embroidery or embellishments. This project could go on forever!!

I agree on the time for the joining areas! I plan the last week of the month to finish those. Love the detail you showed. I really didn't even think of it as a corner until I read what you said! This is a wonderful project, and I love seeing it all together. I hope there's a show in it's future!
