After four printouts of differing tutorials, papers strewn everywhere, numerous practice pieces and getting ready to throw in the towel who should come to my rescue but a knight in shining armour with Erica Wilson's tutorial - thanks Debra you saved the day.
Debra, you'd certainly snag some cowboys in those embroidered jeans!

Just to say, Shisha was new to me and thanks to our Group of wonderful ladies it really gave me the incentive to give it a try. Way to go, but feel I've mastered the basics. Thanks everyone.

Fabulous work, Carol. You'd give those Indian embroiderers a run for their money. Great shishas, too! That's a tough litte stitch IMHO and you did THREE of them. Awesome! (I might be the culprit.....)
Ha, I'll have you know, I did snag my 1st cowboy in jeans very similiar to those, except mine were hiphugger bell bottoms!! Yep, covered in embroidery & with long blonde hair too!
Great work on the shisha flowers! I hope you are adding beads in those blank petal spots. Interesting wrapped stitch to the right too.

Thanks for your nice comments and putting your hand up! DMC thread and perle 8 didn't seem to work and had to use a thicker thread perle 5. My next assignment will be to try and obtain a pleasing result in a finer thread. BTW am considering confiscating Sarah's passport!

Very nicely done. Your Shisha/Shishas are perfect for the trip. Your cross buttonhole and half chevron stitching looks great too.

I really like how you made them flower-like with the vine and the beads...or are those tiny knots?

Love your shishas! Nicely done, and I like the bottom pic with the gold stems joining the shisha flowers together. Really pretty!
They are French knots using very fine Kreinik thread which was left over from my cross stitch days.
You will tell from my post that I wasn't exactly overjoyed sewing with shisha mirrors until I got the hang of it and now its "absoltuely fabulous"! (well almost, still have to master using finer threads). Seriously though, it really did take some time until I watched Erica Wilson's video clip.
I think Sarah's next destination will have to be lazing about on a beach somewhere.

And I embroidered a pair of jeans like that too to match the sleek kaftan embroidered top that was my favourite. Snagged my hubby in that one lol. "Make Love Not War" theme.

Looks terrific! Love the colors you used in the thread around them, too. That whole corner looks so nice together, especially when you added the vine and lazy daisy variation.
Excellent shishas! I remember how frustrated I was the first time I tried them. Eventually they get easier. :) I love the little gold and copper vines and berries around your shishas-- treat contrast of size and texture.
