A few of us in Stitch Twelve had copies of "Threadworks" by Effie Mitrofanis - silks, stitches, beads and cords. When Sarah said she would like to visit India I knew this afforded me the opportunity to dip into Effie's book and when I asked Sharon if we could please have Bullions this month, she again obliged (Effie does like her bullions).
My second effort involved linked bullion stitches, 20/24 wraps using perle 8, with a raised chain band worked on the links using Kreinik metallic thread.
With considerable help, guidance and encouragement from Debra I dusted off my Embrodiery Module (got it out from its original wrapping), downloaded an image, loaded this onto my machine, pressed "go", sat back and hey presto I now have the Taj Mahal for my facing page (it really was a little more complicated than that). Wished I had trimmed that rh side, but was anxious to get it stitched.

You could always add some hand embroidery or trim inside that right side and across the bottom in an asymmetrical way; maybe even going off across the sequins to the page (and end with a shisha!)
I agree with Debra that some added hand stitching or trim along that right side by the Taj Mahal would work really nice. The Taj Mahal is such a beautiful amazing building. I would love to see it in person.
I can't wait to see this block in its entirety. Your seam treatments are so appropriate and I can just imagine the richness this block will have. Switching gears from country to country on each block has got to be pure pleasure. I know I am thoroughly enjoying the travels.
This might end up being my favorite block! The Taj Mahal is 'faboo' as one of my friends puts it.
Lucky Sarah, going to India! The Taj looks great, as do your multi-stitch seams. i like the way you build up the different layers to create something unique.
This block is turning out to be very rich and opulent looking, as befitting a journey to India should be.
That seam treatment with bullion knots and bead strings is gorgeous. They compliment each other well. And I love your linked row of bullion too with the metallic thread thrown in to make it glimmer as well. Nicely done.
The Taj embroidery was a lovely addition for the facing page in your book. Congrats on mastering your machine, lol.

Connie, I would so like to see the building too. Remember seeing pictures of Princess Diana sitting in front of the building and even recall what she was wearing - long time ago now.
I'm having a fun time with Sarah, except when her Aunty Debra encourages her to think outside the box.
It's good having a play at different stitches and techniques.
Building up different layers I think was one of Debra's suggestions a while ago.
If you can have big and blousy bullions I think I'm allowed richness and opulence.
Poor Aunty Debra has a headache from thinking outside the box so much today!

You could also put your country label down the left side (attached with a sisha at each end, of course! *wink*)
Very nice! Good job on the machine embroidery, too! And it looks like you also conquered the shisha? Or did I miss that somehow? Love what you did with the ribbon, beads and bullion. I, too, am looking forward to seeing the whole block.

No prob. I kinda like bullions these days, now that I can do them well. They were my least favorite stitch for years and years, though!

Gorgeous Taj! The seam with the sari ribbon looks SO Indian to me. The bullions remind me of the bangle bracelets my friends from India wore. I can hardly wait for the final reveal on this block!
