No stitching this week. I did running stitch with the Stitch 12 group in January, and my sampler is just like Debra's, Nancy's, and Carol's, so I'm not posting it.
I spent the week making several blocks to work on while we are in the desert for the next six weeks (so I don't have to take my sewing machine; I can just take the blocks and the embellishment supplies.)
All of these blocks were experiments/learning experiences for me, and I really had fun putting them together.
First up: at the Sew Expo, I bought a foot that is supposed to help with piecing curved seams, so I had to try it. (Curve Master presser foot, www.curvemaster.biz )Fun! This pattern is adapted from one I saw on Val Bothell's Pink Bunny site. The background has curved piecing, and the heart appliqued on top also has some curved piecing. Most was accomplished using the new foot, but some I had to applique by hand.
Next: using a picture of my grandchildren from our recent Disneyland trip. I loved the picture of them holding hands, but it had a great deal of "junk" in the background. So using my Microsoft Digital Pro program, I erased the background clutter (other people, shadows, a portion of another ride). Then I printed it using Crafter's Images Photo Fabric, paper-backed fabric for use with inkjet printers. When I printed it, I didn't realize that my printer was out of yellow, but what a lucky coincidence! The photo came out in shades of blue, making it easy to coordinate with blues and pinks. I love the result!
I liked that so much, I decided to try it with a picture taken in the Grand Canyon (we took a guided 7-day raft trip down the canyon in 2003. Wonderful trip!) The Stitch 12 block for March was supposed to be orange, and I thought this would give me an opportunity to use oranges. (It posted incorrectly; it should be rotated one turn to the right)
I liked THAT so much that I decided to borrow an idea from Nancy and make a series of neutral blocks using old family photos. If I get this done, I can turn it into a wall hanging for my father's 97th birthday this June.
So that is what I've been doing! We start down to the desert Wed., and I'll be stitching all the way in the car. When we get there, we'll have two weeks in Indio, where Nancy is staying, along with another stitching friend, so we'll sit on the patio and stitch together!!

I love each and every one of these blocks. I think you have your blocks made until about October! This is going to be fun to see develop.

I like all your blocks. Are you sure that's enough for six weeks of stitching? =) What a lovely present that will make for your dad. Enjoy your stitching time with friends. There's nothing as nice as spring in the desert!

What a fabulously productive week you've had! I love your blocks. The picture with your kids holding hands is totally charming! I think it was a happy accident that it printed the way that it did! I envy you your desert getaway!! what fun! Enjoy your travels. :)
What a wonderful gift this will make, full of memories. Would also be great for grandchildren because they could "find" people, places, etc.--a kind of personal eye spy quilt.
