Susan: CQJP Block 1 and Cretan Stitch

First my practice for the Cretan Stitch. This is my least favorite foundation stitch. I think it's fair to say I hate it. LOL Here's one I did in 2008 on my sampler.

And here are the ones on this year's sampler piece. The second row of blue I just played with some embellishments. The last one - I don't know what that is. LOL

And here is my entire first block for CQJP2012. It still needs a little beading, but I can do that on Monday and Tuesday. The center is much more embellished than I usually do, and there will be more that goes on the outer edges when it's joined to other blocks. For now, it's finished.

You can see closeups of the seams on my blog at cq4fun.livejournal.com

Just lovely! The thread colors work very well with the block colors, and I love the stitch patterns you've used! Very effective.

Beautiful! You have some great stitches on this block and everything works together wonderfully for a harmonious block. Well done!

Thanks to you all for the positive comments. It's good to know that it seems harmonious and that the colors go with the fabrics and that it seems delicate. A good friend always tells me that about my stitching, but I have a hard time judging, and she is, after all, a good friend! =) I appreciate your comments.

All your stitching enhances your fairy pic, and creates a soft, delicate block.

Very pretty work! I had to laugh about your distaste for the cretan stitch, it's not my favorite either.

I love your buttonhole wheels in that beautiful pink, and all the 'flowery' stitching goes well with your theme.
Nice work Susan.

Such a beautiful, delicate fairy in the middle of a magical block. I clicked and enlarged the photo to get a better look at your love stitching. I love some of the variations you used, especially above the fairy and even above that!

Thanks to all for your positive reinforcement. I appreciate your comments! It's so nice to share with people who know what in the world I'm doing. LOL

Thank you, Jen. That seam above the fairy was supposed to be a little different, but I didn't take the sample apart correctly visually, so I had to make some adjustments, and I was happy with the result. On a longer seam some block, I'll try the original plan again!

Thank you for commenting on that pink. I wasn't at all sure the color was right when I was finished, even after I put the same pink in French knots on the other side, but it is what it is, and I think it's going to be fine.

You probably won't see a lot of it on other blocks! =)

Thank you. Soft and delicate isn't really me, so it was a struggle, but I like it.

What a lucky fairy to be in amongst all that lovely stitching! It's wonderful, Susan.
