I've been using the suggested colors for SBS, just in case you've been wondering. And now, my questions are: Is she done? Suggestions are welcome. Personally, I kind of like leaving some white space although I did wonder about adding some kind of motif on the watering can. According to the pattern, all of SBS's shoes are supposed to be black. What do you think? Does this make her shoes the focus? Don't know about you all, but I'm ready to move on to block number two!

You could definitely add a motif to the watering can if you want but I don't think its necessary. Why would her shoes all need to be black? If you make each one individual then they can be totally different in color including shoes. Don't most women have different color shoes to go with their outfits? You've done a lovely job with her!
Good point, Angela! And here I thought it was a bit "wild" to give these utilitarian shoes some texture. LOL
I think your SBS is very sweet as she is. Perhaps adding texture to the watering can might take the focus away from her.
I wouldn't change a thing! SBS needed to catch up to this century. I think she is sweet.
I don't know what her final look will be--is she going into a patchwork/CQ block or are all the SBS going to be stitched together?
My only suggestion is that I think she needs to be standing on "ground" just like the birdbath is standing in some flowers. Maybe a few straight stitches of grass. I think her shoes look like airy sandals so maybe you can vary their look to match the "ground"--you know, grass + sandals. She could even have a few little flowers mixed in with the grass. Other than that, I'd move on to Block 2.
I like Debra's idea of a little grass or something under her feet. Otherwise, the block looks fine, and a flower or curved line or something on the watering can is optional. I love the French knots you added to that sleeve. Can't wait to see the next one!
You're right, she does look like she's floating. Off to "plant' some grass. ;)
I agree with the people who have already mentioned the "floating" look and the idea of adding grass to help "ground" her. Her shoes look like little woven sandals. So cute!
I think that with the lovely pastel colors you have used for her dress and all the rest of the stitching, her black shoes really stand out, so if I were going to do a series of them, and if I wanted to keep working with the lighter colors in general, I would probably choose something lighter like a brown for the shoes rather than trying to make them all black. But on this SBS, her watering can is also a dark thread (maroon), and so is the bow on her hat (dark green), so the three elements together create a nice visual triangle, which I rather like.
Very charming block. I agree that adding to the watering can is optional. To me it looks like she has alligator shoes--very cool!
SBS is so sweet--love her polka dot sleeves!
I also love the way the fly stitches are all lined up then look like they escape and start jumping and turning somersaults, then line up again. :)
If you think the shoes are bit dominant you could always tone them down a bit with a lighter colour stitched overlapping the black a bit.
But I think she looks great as she is Judy. A job well done, call it finished and move onto the next one.
