Didn't get as much done as I'd hoped but here's my fly stitch "doodles":
I started a new combination but didn't get it finished.
Here's a little flower using my new fly stitch skills.
A few of these stitch combinations are found in this book, The Stitches of Creative Embroidery. It's not the sexiest book around as there are no fancy color photos but it's been useful to me. It's out of print, but Amazon has used copies. Check my blog in a little while for some photos of a very basic fly stitch on my CQJP block.

That little flower is cute! We need to keep that one for a resource. Lots of people in this group are going to be needing little flowers later on.
Debra, have you seen some of the work being done in this challenge? Holy Cow. I am not worthy.
Nice variations, Deborah. I like your flower, too.
@Deborah, yes, but I refuse to be intimidated by it! You are just as worthy as the next stitcher so quit looking at the TAST page on FB and stick with your own ideas!
If you took your little flower and embroidered several of them in a circle, you would have an adorable block motif. Or line them up along a seam and they would be as sweet as sugar! Pop a button in the middle-perfect!
(I better see one or two on your CQJP or else!)
Love that flower, Deborah! I also like the lettering for your January. How do you get your daisy stitches to stay open? Mine always close shut. :( BTW, I was 2 hours off on my first post, so don't feel bad. Never could tell time and am a terrible procrastinator besides.... Poor Debra has to put up with us, eh?
What a great flower. This is going to be a wonderful project.
Deborah, I like your examples. I agree with the others that the flower is adorable.
Don't compare yourself to others but rather compare yourself to what you used to do. No one can do YOU better! I think you did a really nice job on your stitches!!! I am in a watercolor group on Yahoo and if I compared myself to some of them I would be digging a hole and climbing in. Just do what you love and love what you do. (removing soapbox now :-D)
Nice stitch examples
I think I screwed up the timing this week too: I accidentally hit "publish" before choosing the timeslot I wanted to assign. ack. Oh well. Better next week, I hope!
We are artists! We can't be tied down by mudane things like TIME! Just kidding. I do look at the beautiful work on TAST just because, and it does give me some ideas, and something to strive for - motivates me to do better. You are all very kind; thanks for the good vibes. Everyone on this group is doing a great job. I may have to switch to a lower thread count even weave. That 22 count is pretty hard on the eyes.
That triangle shape at the bottom is very nice too. I find that I love old embroidery books. The stitches are the same, and I like seeing the 60s and 70s projects.
Love that flower, Deborah!
I was inspired to pull out my bin of old cross stitch books last night and look through them.
The doodle cloth is great and the book is def an old favorite
